Sixth Grade

Bible: Cherie Noel, Winning Your Race. Work includes weekly character building lessons, quiz, and memory verse.

Literature: Prentice Hall

History: Holt, Rinehart and Winston, The Americas.  

People and geography of North, South, and Central America.

Science: Bob Jones (BJU Press)

Consumer Education

Sewing: Learn hand-sewing techniques, learn machine in order to make a toiletry bag for the needy and a throw pillow for personal use.  

Cooking: Become familiar with cooking terminology and learn tools of the kitchen through labs.

Kites: Become acquainted with history of kites and principles of flight while designing and flying a kite.

English: Bob Jones (BJU Press)        

Theme Books:  Bronze Bow, Tom Sawyer

Spelling/Vocabulary: Vocabulary Workshop - Level A

Spanish: (2 classes per week): Sixth graders carefully review the vocabulary from grades 1-5 in preparation for middle school Spanish. They also learn the words of The Lord’s Prayer in Spanish, the names, locations, and capitals of Spanish-speaking countries, the culture and history of select Spanish-speaking countries before and after Christopher Columbus, words to discuss family, location words, the names of objects in a classroom, and personality adjectives.

Seventh Grade 

Bible: Cherie Noel - Wise-Up! - A study of the book of Proverbs.

Science: Christian Schools International, Earth Science.  Earth Science is the study of God's creation including geology, water and water systems, the dynamic earth, meteorology, the environment and astronomy.

Students will participate in a speech contest every other year alternating with a science fair.

History: Holt, Rinehart and Winston. World History: Covers from the beginning of civilization through world empires; England in the 1600's including major world religions.

Literature: Prentice Hall

English: Bob Jones (BJU Press)

Theme Books:  The Giver; Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry

Spelling/Vocabulary: Vocabulary Workshop - Level B

Speech Contest: Students will participate in a speech contest every other year alternating with a science fair.

Consumer Education

Sewing: Design and make a quilt for the needy, as well as construct a  bag w/zipper as a personal project.

Cooking: Become familiar with nutritional needs, while making healthy snacks.

Design Arts: Learn elements and principles of design while designing a model bedroom.

Spanish: (5 classes per week): Seventh graders at High Point Christian School learn the grammar and vocabulary associated with the first half of a typical high school Spanish 1 class. The students use the Realidades A textbook with its accompanying workbook and audio activities. Students learn interpretative, interpersonal, and presentational modes of communication in Spanish, in addition to learning about the culture of various Spanish-speaking countries., adjective agreement, the verb “ser”, definite articles, and indefinite articles.

Eighth Grade

Bible: ACSI

Literature: Prentice Hall

English: Bob Jones (BJU Press)

Theme Books: Johnny Tremain, The Hiding Place

Spelling/Vocabulary: Vocabulary Workshop - Level C     

Speech Contest: Students will participate in a speech contest every other year alternating with a science fair.

Science: Christian Schools International, Life Science.

History: Holt, Rinehart and Winston, United States History. We cover the world before Columbus, exploration, colonies, Revolutionary War, and the Constitution.

Consumer Education

Sewing: Construct hat and mittens for the needy, along with using a pattern to make sleep pants for themselves.

Cooking: Learn the parts and health benefits of breakfast, and prepare breakfast for 8th grade parents.

Banking/Checkbook Unit: Introduce services banks provide and become acquainted with the use of a checkbook.

Spanish: (5 classes per week): Eighth graders at High Point Christian School learn the grammar and vocabulary associated with the second half of a typical high school Spanish 1 class. The students use the Realidades B textbook with its accompanying workbook and audio activities. Students learn interpretative, interpersonal, and presentational modes of communication in Spanish, in addition to learning about the culture of various Spanish-speaking countries.

Upon successful completion of seventh & eighth grade Spanish, High Point Christian School students are strongly encouraged to enroll in Spanish 2 during their first year of high school.
